The Nomad Trust 'Pledge a Bed' Scheme
We are a homeless charity that has operated for 23 years in the city of Lincoln and we provide the ONLY emergency access shelter in the county where single rough sleepers who would otherwise be sleeping on the streets, can knock on our door and get immediate help. We give a warm bed, food, showers and clean clothes in a safe environment. In the depths of winter we literally save lives! We receive 60% of our costs through statutory funding, to help pay for the services we provide, the rest we have to generate by other means. We simply would not exist without the financial support we get from the local community.
To maintain this crucial service to the homeless we need to raise over £100k per year, and to help us to achieve this target we have launched our ‘Pledge a Bed Scheme'. The unfunded portion of providing an emergency bed in our shelter is £10 per night, £300 per month, £3,600 per year.
We are appealing for businesses, organisations, communities and individuals to sponsor a bed and become one of our ‘Nomad Homeless Partners'.
We would be happy to work with you in assisting with any publicity associated with your sponsorship. We will have your organization name and logo on our literature, newsletter and website along with a display area within the shelter highlighting your commitment to us. We receive good media covering and as a ‘Nomad Homeless Partner' your organization would be part of this.
We already have the Cooke-Connell Fundraisers and Jackson Building Centres on board as partners, and our target is to sponsor all fifteen emergency beds. This would help to secure the future of our Charity and allow us to continue to provide help to the most vulnerable and needy members of our community.
If you are interested and would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact us on 01522 883703.

The world of the homeless seems very far from yours -- but in some ways it is quite near. For any of us, the loss of a job, the death of a spouse or a child, a severe physical disability, family problems, could all be the route to total despair. Braving the harsh city streets or seeking refuge in shelters is a tragedy no one should have to endure. Every day more and more people arrive at our doorstep, unsure what the future holds for them.
What can you do personally? We can make quite a difference in the lives of the homeless when we respond to them, rather than ignore or dismiss them. To help them sometimes the smallest gesture -- and a good attitude -- can go a long way.
One of the most direct ways to aid the homeless is to donate money. The Nomad Trust is dependant on donations from individuals and organisations, and your donation will make a difference.
The Trust relies on the good will and generosity of local people to help maintain its essential services to homeless people in Lincoln. Our Night Shelter costs us approximately £54 per person per night to run efficiently and safely. Any donations are greatly appreciated and can be in the form of cash, cheques, standing order or by Gift Aid. Donations can be either handed in personally at any of the Nomad projects or posted to our main office at 15A Monks Road, Lincoln, LN2 5HL. You can now donate online via this website. Your donation can be anonymous but otherwise please ensure your name and address are supplied for us to acknowledge receipt of your donation. Your monetary gifts to the Trust are worth an extra 25%, without it costing you any more. How? By Gift Aid. If you are a U.K. taxpayer and would like to donate via the Gift Aid scheme, please contact us and let us know.
You could also consider leaving a legacy in your Will which will greatly help the charity. We would suggest either contacting your solicitor and mentioning our registered charity number: 517252 or visit the Charities Aid Foundation (http://www.cafonline.org ) who give valuable advice on donations and legacies.
Other ways to help include:
- Donating items such as clothing and household goods (from teaspoons to small items of furniture) giving us the option to use such items in our projects or to put up for sale in our Charity Shop.
- Joining us at any of our fundraising events.
- Volunteering your time at any of our projects.
- Baking cakes and biscuits for use in our Night Shelter.
- Knitting hats, gloves, scarves or jumpers that we can give to the homeless to help keep them warm in the winter.
- Making fancy goods or preserves for us to sell at any of the charitable fetes.
- Holding a coffee morning or a bring and buy sale to raise funds.
If you feel able to help in any of the above ways, or have ideas of your own, please let us know or contact us for a chat. You are welcome to visit our projects and meet the staff.
