From it's humble beginnings with mattresses on the floor in the Day Centre, and opened in 1997, the Night Shelter is the County's only direct access emergency shelter. Admission times are 11.30am to 2.00pm and 4.00pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The shelter offers dormitory style accomodation with the following services available to all:
- 2 trained members of staff on duty at all times
- 3 meals a day, breakfast, cooked dinner and a supper in the evening
- Shower and laundry facilities
- Personal lockers
- Companionship
- Counselling and support
- Resettlement Assistance
- Floating Support for up to 3 months once re-housed
- A postal address
- Kenneling facilities
- Life Skills sessions

The Night Shelter has 24 hour recording C.C.T.V. (internal on three floors). Personal, hand held alarms are available for staff and any other person who may feel vulnerable. The latest in security measures are two way radios that are directly linked to the police and other agencies. All Service Users must comply with the Nomad Trust Licence Agreement and all rules must be observed whilst staying in the shelter. The rules are contained in the Licence Agreement, which is signed by all Service Users on initial entry to the Night Shelter.The main rules of the Night Shelter are:
- No alcohol, drugs or offensive weapons.
- No smoking inside the night shelter. Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area in the yard.
- All medication must be declared on admittance and must bear the owners name and be in it's original container.
- Dietary needs must be notified to staff on admission.
- All personal property and possessions must be stored in the lockers provided.
- The Nomad Trust will not accept responsibility for damage to or loss of personal possessions or property.
- No access to the Night Shelter is allowed between the hours of 9.00am and 4.30pm except by prior appointment with staff or for life skills sessions. Day services is open between 11.30am until 2pm for current service users to receive a free meal.
- Service Users who are seen in the vicinity of Nomad premises either drinking alcohol, taking or using illegal drugs, begging or being physically or verbally abusive to others, or obstructing the public access, will be subject to a ban.
